Customer Story: Building a Better Outdoor POS

When an outdoor POS software company first came to Handeholder in 2019, their need was simple: they just wanted a better way to hold their iPad Mini devices during sales.

We set them up with our Handeholder strap and a BBPOS Chipper sled attachment—and it worked. So well, in fact, that by 2021 they had rolled out around 60 units across their team.

But working on the beach comes with… well, beach problems.

The Sand Problem

By 2022, sand was getting everywhere—inside cases, into devices, even jamming up the rails on their existing setups. It made devices harder to use and maintain, and slowed their team down. So, we helped them upgrade.

We introduced a modified OtterBox Defender case for their newer iPad Mini 6 devices and built a fully integrated setup with:

• A Handeholder grip
• M2 Stripe Reader sled holder
• Industrial Dual Lock for a secure hold 
  

Now their devices were protected, easier to use, and far more durable in a sandy environment.

The “Real Life” Problem

Then came something you can’t always design for on paper: user behavior.

In 2023, their team—many of them younger beach employees—started ditching the tablets altogether. They preferred using their own phones, which led to POS devices being dropped, lost, or shoved into pockets. Not ideal. So, we got creative.

We developed a retractable belt clip system that let employees attach the POS device directly to their clothing. They could keep their phones in hand and simply extend the payment device to the customer when needed.

No pockets, no drops, no lost equipment.

Making It Even Easier

By 2024, the focus shifted to comfort and convenience.

We added a shoulder strap to the existing setup, giving their team a fully hands-free option for long days on the beach.

The Result

What started as a simple tablet holder turned into a complete, evolving solution:

• Rugged device protection
• Sand-resistant design
• Reduced breakage and loss
• Flexible use with phones or tablets
• Easier, faster customer transactions 
  

Most importantly, it’s a solution that keeps adapting as their business grows.
